1. Volume is the Name of the Game: This is an easy way to blow some volume into your hair. For that tousled look, switch to the cool setting on the blow dryer once your hair is dry, flip your head over and just blow for a few minutes all over. You?ll get ?air pockets? between the strands to make your hair look extra full. I love the look of chunky hair!
2. Who wants Dull Locks? Do you want the good news or the bad news first? You can have shiny hair. There?s only a little discomfort with this method, but it truly works. After shampooing and rinsing, apply conditioner to ends only and leave on for a minute. You will need to rinse the conditioner out with freezing cold water?I?m not kidding you when I say go as cold as you can stand it?you will close the hair cuticles so they lie flat and reflect more light. This leaves you with smooth shiny hair. Try it once and notice the difference.
3. Yes, mother: Good nutrition, adequate sleep, and drink enough water! You?ve heard it all before, but its true ladies. My stylist can always tell when I haven?t been drinking enough water (it?s such an ugly scene).
Some great foods that you can eat to help nourish your hair are nuts and wheat germ both have biotin, a nutrient known for making hair strong and resilient. If you don?t have high cholesterol, eat red meat twice a week. It has protein, B vitamins, zinc, and iron which are all vital minerals for healthy hair. If you?re vegetarian, try eating egg whites instead.
4. Hit the sheets with a Wet Head: This one of my favorite ways to get wavy hair without the frizz (and you don?t even have to do anything). Go to bed with your hair wet. Tossing, turning, and just from laying your head on the pillow will flatten out frizz and give you an incredible wavy texture.
If you are uncomfortable with wet hair at bedtime, pull your hair up on top of your head and put it in a pony-tail. I mean right on top of your head, girls! Yes, you will look ridiculous, but it?s easy to sleep on and when you let your down the next morning, WHOA, the volume is unbelievable!
5. Zig Zag It: In a rut? Get a new cut! Having a fresh cut makes all the difference in the world. Uncut hair is drab, heavy, and flat. I don?t prefer to get my hair cut every six to eight weeks, but I?ll go twelve weeks instead. I?ve noticed my hair grows faster this way. Look through magazines to find hair styles you like. Book an appointment with your stylist (go to someone reputable, it?s worth the extra money) and have a consultation with him/her.
Maybe consider asking for the ?zig-zag? scissors, another GlamourGrrl favorite. These texturizing scissors give your hair oomph, can add body, and create a fabulous, tousled, bed-head look by adding weightless layers into your hair, especially around the face. Don?t be scared, I?ll know you?ll love the ?zig-zag?.
6. Come-Hither: Don?t even think about getting short bangs right across the front of your head. Instead, get long wispy bangs that every bombshell has. You can curl them, but not too tightly, to whichever side you like, and then lightly spritz them to stay in place. MUY Caliente!
7. Do You Have All the Right Stuff?: Get the right products for your hair type and switch them up often. If your hair is looking flat like it?s glued to your head, use a volumizing shampoo and conditioner because it is formulated to thicken each strand with the use of polymers. If it?s feeling dry or brittle, use moisturizing formulas. An extra cleansing or clarifying shampoo will rid the hair from any oils or leftover styling products that stick to the hair and cause it to be heavy. This type of shampoo should only be used once a week.
8. How many hair-brushes does GlamourGrrl have, you ask? Zero. I almost never brush my hair. You already know this, but just as a reminder, don?t brush wet hair because it causes breakage use a wide tooth comb instead. After styling your hair, lightly spritz it with a natural hold hairspray and then shake it out by doing ?the flip? or run your hands through your hair to shake it up a bit.
GlamourGrrl?s favorite hair-spray is Victoria?s Secret So Sexy Natural Hold. I think it?s around twelve bucks, but it?s worth it because it will not leave your hair sticky or give you that glossed look (remember Auqa-Net back in the day?).
9. Faves: Speaking of GlamourGrrl?s favorite hair products, I also love Victoria?s Secret So Sexy Volumizing Mousse. It?s formulated for fine limp hair and when applied just to the roots?VWELLA! You have volume! I think it?s around twelve dollars. Victoria?s Secret often has sales, ?Buy two get one free?, on their hair-products. I insist that you try their products at least once?you?ll be hooked.
Another fabulous product is something you probably have never thought about using! It?s Aveda?s Pure Abundance Hair Potion. When Aveda states that their magic hair potion thickens hair by 17%, they mean it! This stuff gives you that ?second-day? hair, which I love because it always has more texture. It?s about $22, BUT this little bottle will last you a long time! It comes in a powder and you only need a little bit to sprinkle onto your roots. You will wonder how you got along without it for so long once you try it!
10. Work with What Your Mamma Gave Ya: Girls, we are born with a certain number of hair follicles so we have to work with what we have. New hair follicles will not develop after you are born, soooooo… if a hair and its follicle is completely removed, it's not coming back! Use the above tips to work with the head of hair you have and be sure to put on the attitude of the gorgeous chic you are!
One Last Tidbit: Mother does know best! Stand up straight it makes you look taller, thinner, and confident. Be sure to get a great haircut, it?s worth every penny and makes you appear younger by brightening up your eyes & face. Most importantly, show confidence! It?s the ultimate beauty secret. Be that glamorous girl who gives off an aura of self assurance and a sense of calm.
